End of an Era, but not Really

"The best-laid plans often go awry," as the saying goes, along with many other pearls of wisdom that seem fitting when the inevitable unfolds. For many of us, the names Lorne Donaldson and Real Colorado are inseparable, intertwined in a history that transformed the Douglas County Soccer Association from being colloquially dubbed “DC Last” to becoming one of the premier youth soccer clubs in the nation. It's with a mix of excitement and sadness that we acknowledge Lorne's departure from his current position at Real Colorado. He embarks on a new journey as the Head Coach of the Chicago Red Stars in the NWSL, a challenge that speaks volumes of his talent and dedication.

On behalf of the Board of Directors at Real Colorado, I would like to express our heartfelt appreciation for Lorne’s dedication and significant contributions to our organization. He has been instrumental in elevating Real Colorado to new heights. We are thrilled for Lorne as he embarks on his new journey, and equally enthusiastic about the future opportunities for our team. Lorne will always be an integral part of the Real Colorado family he helped shape, and we eagerly anticipate maintaining and celebrating our relationship with him in the years to come.

Ron vonLembke - Chairman Real Colorado

Lorne's advancement to this new role as head coach of the NWSL’s Chicago Red Stars  is something that has been a long time coming. In my view, his dedication to Real Colorado was probably the main factor behind any postponement. I'm genuinely thrilled for him and eagerly anticipate his accomplishments in this next chapter. Personally, Lorne is an irreplaceable figure in various capacities – as a coach, mentor, individual, and friend. Though I'll miss his frequent presence, I take comfort in knowing that our bond and the roles he plays in my life remain unchanged. I'm excited to uphold and advance the legacy he's crafted at Real Colorado.

Jared Spires - CEO Real Colorado

In recent years, Lorne's involvement with Jamaica has inadvertently set the stage for Real Colorado to evolve, readying us for the eventual transition we face today. As a mentor to most of our staff, Lorne's influence at Real Colorado is profound. He will remain an invaluable asset to our leadership, aiding in our ongoing pursuit of excellence and success. While he is indeed moving on, his imprint on Real Colorado is indelible. Rest assured, his presence will continue to be felt around the fields in the coming months, engaging in the unique and impactful way that only he can.

Real Colorado is my family and will always hold a special place in my heart. The decision to take a new path has been incredibly difficult, but I’ve always taught our players the importance of personal growth and facing new challenges. Now, I’m applying that same philosophy for myself. My love for Real and the Colorado community remains unwavering. With the leadership team I’ve established, I have the upmost confidence they will continue to upload Real’s standard of excellence. Real’s legacy will continue for many years to come. I’m deeply grateful for the privilege of serving you for the past 25 years.”
